Bead & Jewel Journey: my buying trip

Follow me over the next couple of weeks as I source Czech and German beads, embellishments & jewellery.

Here are some of my first finds…

1970s tin enamel brooches.
Hand painted by a Hungarian woman who apparently worked until she was 82! These are part of an extensive sample range collection. The designs were sold to prestigious dept stores including Harrods London.

1980s enamel & diamante clip on earrings. Made by the same maker these are all one offs, never worn samples.

New Beads

Deco shapes are all the rage this autumn/winter.

 

A new range of ceramic beads & jewellery are now available to inspire the designer within.

 
Think black, aubergine and red with gold foil bold strokes.

 The ceramic beads are all fair trade. This is their story.

A small pottery workshop was established in 1975.  Based in Kenya it gives hope, dignity & opportunity to over 200 women who make the solid clay beads.  They are decorated in traditional & our own modern designs using metal oxides in the rich, colour glazes of which all are uniquely handmade. Asante sana (thank you) for supporting our community fair trade project.

 

 
Triangles & trapezes feature in our new Czech glass range.

Colours include: black, dark red, aqua, ivory & cobolt blue.

Safari Wrap Around Bracelet

This autumn create some tribal accents.

 
Bring a piece of the savanna into your life with an easy animal print leather wrap around. Simply knot bead drops at intervals along the leather. Avail as a DIY for only $19.95 or design your own.

 Go for bold stripes & olive green monochrome.

What we used:

• flat leather,
• leather ends & a clasp
• x10 10mm Czech mixed glass firepolished  beads,
• x10 6mm Swarovski crystals & pearls.

 

TIP: Measure your design precisely so it wraps around your wrist 4 times: you do not want it to fall off. Use an eze bracelet to measure the correct length: even 1 cm can make a big difference.

Options:The design may also be worn as a necklace.
